NBL: JackJumpers sign Taran Armstrong on one-year deal

Australian point guard Taran Armstrong has agreed to a one-year NBL deal with the Tasmania JackJumpers, sources told ESPN.

Armstrong, who hails from Burnie, Tasmania, will join his hometown NBL team for the 2026-27 season, with the JackJumpers acquiring the services of one of Australia's rising guards.

The 24-year-old's most recent stint with Dubai Basketball in the EuroLeague, where he suited up for 18 games over the 2025-26 season.

Prior to that, Armstrong was on a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first Tasmanian to sign in the NBA. He primarily played with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G-League, where he averaged 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, while shooting 36.4% from 3PT.

It's a return to the NBL for Armstrong, who spent the first two seasons of his professional career playing for the Cairns Taipans. During the 2024-25 season, Armstrong averaged 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists a game for the Taipans; he was the only player to post a triple-double over the course of that NBL campaign.

The JackJumpers are fresh off the announcement of centre Will Magnay signing a new two-year deal to remain with the franchise; combine that acquisition with terms being agreed with Armstrong, and head coach Scott Roth has a high-level local player at both the point guard and centre positions to book-end his starting lineup.

Once Armstrong is signed, he'll join Magnay, Ben Ayre, Josh Bannan, Majok Deng, Sean Macdonald, Nick Marshall, and Kobe Williamson as contracted players on the JackJumpers roster as the NBL's free agency period continues.

The JackJumpers are coming off a second straight season without advancing to the playoffs, finishing their injury-riddled 2025-26 campaign with a 14-19 record.
