Fantasy hockey rankings: Logan Thompson rises to No. 2 overall

Is it injuries or the continued rise of the tandem? Last season through Dec. 11, we still had two goaltenders with more than 80% of their team's crease share. Eight goalies had more than 70%.

This season, no goalie has more than Igor Shesterkin's 78.2% crease share and only six goalies have more than a 70% share so far.

The fantasy production scales down in a similar fashion. The top 12 goaltenders through Dec. 11 last season had a grand total of 739.6 fantasy points, compared to 723.0 so far this season. By the way, that's through 492 games this season compared to just 457 through Dec. 11 last season, too.

In other words, hang on to your quality goaltenders and keep looking to acquire those in a timeshare (Brandon Bussi, Joseph Woll, Akira Schmid, for example) in hopes they can break out of it.

These rankings are based on expectations of fantasy points produced from Friday, Dec. 12 until the end of the season.

Skaters: goals = 2 points; assists = 1 point; shots and hits = 0.1 points
blocked shots and special teams points = 0.5 points

Goaltenders: wins = 4 points; OT losses = 1 point; shutouts = 3 points
saves = 0.2 points; goals against = -2 points
